Christian Female Role Model of the Day: Madeleine L'Engle

Welcome to my celebration of Women's History Month! You can read more about this month and why I am writing about admirable Christian women here. For now, let's jump in!

The Female Christian Role Model of the Day is... Madeleine L'Engle!

Madeleine L'Engle is the author of the Newbery Medal winning book, A Wrinkle in Time. L'Engle wrote many books (both fiction and nonfiction) as well as poetry.

So why do we care about Madeleine L'Engle? While many of her books were fantastical in nature (even being called science fiction) L'Engle was solidly grounded in her faith. She wove her faith into her writing causing critics to claim that it was too religious to be taught in public schools. This landed A Wrinkle in Time on the banned book list.

Although A Wrinkle in Time is a huge success today, it was rejected 30 times before finally reaching publication. L'Engle spoke openly about her failures as an author early on and how her faith kept her strong.
