Christian Female Role Model of the Day: Fanny Crosby

Welcome to my celebration of Women's History Month! You can read more about this month and why I am writing about admirable Christian women here. For now, let's jump in!

The Forgiven Former Feminist's Female Christian Role Model of the Day is... Fanny Crosby!

Fanny Crosby was an incredibly gifted musician and composer; she was also blind. She was one of the greatest influences in worship for millions of Christians across the globe. She was an American Methodist rescue mission worker. Crosby wrote hymns such as: “Blessed Assurance”, “Jesus Is Tenderly Calling You Home”, “Praise Him, Praise Him”, “Rescue the Perishing”, and “To God Be the Glory”. Her music was vivacious and lyrically complicated. At the turn of the century she was a household name, having composed over 8,000 songs. She was initiated into the Gospel Hall of Fame in 1975.

So why is Fanny Crosby on my list? Crosby didn't let her blindness set her back. She didn't complain or whine, she worshiped the Lord despite her disabilities. When I went through my favorite hymnal the other day, her name was on more hymns than anyone else's name. Her music is STILL impacting Christians all over the world, what a legacy.
