Christian Female Role Model of the Day: Kay Yow

Welcome to my celebration of Women's History Month! You can read more about this month and why I am writing about admirable Christian women here. For now, let's jump in!

The Forgiven Former Feminist's Female Christian Role Model of the Day is...  Kay Yow!

Kay Yow was an American girl's basketball coach with more than 700 career wins on record. In 1975 Yow became North Carolina's first full time women's basketball coach, after completing her master's degree in physical education. Yow coached the US women's basketball team to gold in 1988 despite the fact that she was battling breast cancer. She was inducted in to the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame in 2000.

So why is Kay Yow on my list? Yow displayed good character to everyone that she met, so much so that collegeinsider.com actually named an award after her for coaches that display "great personal character on and off the court". Upon the return of her cancer in 2009, Yow made a video to be shown at her funeral in which she said, ""And now I say farewell and it's been a wonderful journey, especially since the time I accepted Jesus as my Lord and Savior" reminding the 1,400 people in attendance that what really matters in life is not winning on the court, it is winning for Jesus Christ.
