Christian Female Role Model of the Day: Joan of Arc

Welcome to my celebration of Women's History Month! You can read more about this month and why I am writing about admirable Christian women here. For now, let's jump in!

The Forgiven Former Feminist's Female Christian Role Model of the Day is...  Joan of Arc!

Joan of Arc is one of the most famous women in all of Christian history. She led the French army to victory over the British at the battle of OrlĂ©ans at the tender age of 18 years old. She was captured by the British the next year and was eventually burned at the stake by the English for being a heretic. On May 16, 1920, Joan was canonized by the Roman Catholic Church as a saint 500 years after her martyrdom.

So why did Joan of Arc make it on to my list? Joan traveled a different path. When other girls her age were getting married and having babies Joan took the road less traveled. Despite trials, obstacles, and downright horrendous conditions Joan followed the call she heard from God. She did not recant and she did not give up. Joan is a powerhouse role model for Christian women that God did not call to the "stereotypical" walk. God does not say you have to be like everyone else, and Joan is proof of that.
